Beauty Tips

At Essential we want our clients to look and feel their best confident self! Here are tips on how to achieve that inside the salon and at home!
First we have tips relevant to treatments, and after that we have tips on skin care, make-up, hair care, nail care, eye care, lip care and health and fitness.

Removing shellac-
We offer shellac soak off on our price list and will explain this alternative to you in the salon...
Tear aluminium foil in to 10 squares large enough to cover finger tip/toe.
Soak a cotton pad in acetone nail varnish remover.
Wrap one cotton pad around your finger/toe and secure it with an aluminium foil square.
Do the same for all remaining fingers and toes.
Leave on for 10-15 minutes and take out.
Your shellac may look flaky (this is good)
Use a cuticle stick to scrape off the polish, if the shellac does not come off easily put back inside the acetone soaked cotton and foil for a few minutes.
Once the shellac is removed use a buffer on your nails.

Wax After Care-
When you've had a hot wax bikini treatment we would advice on getting yourself a good body brush, this will help the hairs break back through the skin and avoid ingrowing hairs. Your delicate skin needs care, just like your face. This can be achieved through a good exfoliate with a body brush and a good application of moisturiser to sooth.

Spray Tan Preparation-Exfoliate the whole body the day before and moisturise. The day of your tan cleanse the whole body but avoid moisturising after (apart from face), deodorant, perfume and make up. We will provide you with paper knickers and a hair net and we will moisturise any dry areas you may be concerned with. When you arrive we will talk you through what to do.
Spray Tan After Care- Moisturise. And after 3-4 days start exfoliating - continue to moisturise. This will help your tan gradually fade and avoid going patchy.

  3. Make sure your pillows aren't dirty to maintain healthy skin, especially if you sleep on your side.
  4. Drink plenty of water, it fights signs of ageing. Keep your body and skin hydrated, dehydration can cause fine lines and wrinkles.
  5. Use the right cleanser for your skinwe recommend: ultracalming cleanser for sensitive skin to gently lift debris. The skin resurfacing cleanser for ageing skin. Clearing skin wash for acne.
  6. Stop touching and picking your spots and blackheads - this just adds bacteria to pores resulting in more breakouts.
  7. Don't over wash your face, even if you have bad spots it irritates them to over treat them.
  8. Steam blackheads with a specific  microzone facial.
  9. Clean glasses/sunglasses regularly to avoid build-up of bacteria on the bridge of your nose.
  10. But do wear your glasses/lenses, squinting leads to fine lines and wrinkles.
  11. Get enough sun, but use the correct SPF.
  12. Don't over wax it's bad for your skin, ask our therapists how long to leave in between.
  13. Don't over exfoliate as it strips skin, or use gentle daily exfoliants like our daily microfoliant.
  14. Choose the correct face cloth, do not use anything abrasive, and use a clean one per wash as bacteria quickly builds on them.
  15. Hot water strips skin of natural oils, rinse with cool water.

Make-Up:
  1. Don't wear make-up to exercise.
  2. Take your make up off before washing your skin.
  3. Use a primer day-to-day, rather than a heavy foundation or under light foundation. We recommend the  new hydrablur primer or for aging skin skin perfect primer or for redness redness relief primer.
  4. If you do wear makeup make sure your brushes are clean.
  5. Don't go to sleep with your make-up on, it can block pores and cause breakouts.
  6. Avoid the stress of doing your eyebrows daily or going too heavy with pencil and tint the hair for a more natural look.
  7. Don't use expired make-up - old make-up is a big no for healthy skin.
  8. Don't put foundation on to cover your dry skin, it won't help dryness or the appearance.
  9. Save time of applying mascara by having an eyelash tint - also useful for regular swimmers.
  10. Avoid using different shades of foundation to target pigmentation, we recommend the power bright range to brighten and even skin tone.

Hair Care:
  1. Don't double shampoo, it strips hair of healthy natural oils.
  2. Rinse hair with cold water.

Nail Care:
  1. Have a full manicure and pedicure regularly to improve your nail health and leave your nails looking better.
  2. Nail envy can strengthen your nails whilst helping them to grow. You can purchase this from the salon or book the treatment
  3. Don't leave nail varnish on your toes too long as it dries the nails.
  4. Have a shellac treatment to allow nails to grow.
  5. Remove nail varnish with a soft cotton pad or cotton ball - avoid picking off nail varnish.
Eye Care:
  1. Be careful when applying product as the skin is thin and sensitive in the eye area.
  2. Don't forget to apply SPF to your eye area to protect it, though be careful to avoid your eyes. We recommend total eye care (spf 15) - also good for dark circles!
  3. Using cucumber can be beneficial, they are mostly water so are hydrating.
  4. Use a clean and hot (not too hot!) cotton pad on your eyes to maintain healthy eyes and helps the eyelid glands to function.
  5. Get enough shut eye!

Lip Care:
  1. Keep your lips moisturised to prevent them looking aged early.
  2. Use renewal lip complex for ageing or mature lips to restore delicate tissue.
Health and Fitness:
  1. Exercise cleans body of toxins.
  2. If you want to lose weight but hate exercise we recommend at least 3 Hours of Shopping!
Retail therapy accompanies beauty therapy well.
  3. Take the stairs, or take the option of walking over driving or taking a lift.
  4. Also laughing a lot is good for burning calories - may be slow but useful to try!
  5. Swap your sweet snacks for fruit - the natural sugars help cravings.
  6. Drink plenty of water.
  7. Get plenty of sleep.
  8. Drinking lots of alcohol can dehydrate skin.
